Why I'm a Vocalist

Ive been thinking for a bit about how much of an artist I really am.
I go to school with people who are active creators. They make things. They have something tangible to show off and say "this is what Ive done with my time". I just have notes and rhythms someone else wrote out for me. Sure, there is the element of artistry and interpretation that goes into the pieces I perform. But overall Ive been toeing the line on whether I'm an artist, or a performer.
Sorry to disappoint, but I don't exactly have an answer just yet.
I realize that I can do something a lot of people can't. And I recognize that I can have recordings and tapings of performances and thats something tangible to show someone and say "Look! See what I can do?". I'm just not sure just how that makes me feel.
If I'm just a performer, I'm okay with that. I love singing both because I'm vain and enjoy the attention and because I love entertaining people. Who else can go to work and say they made people, even for just the night, happy or sad or thoughtful? I feel like opera (and other singing such as concerts etc.) can really just make people feel from the top of their head to the tips of their toes, even for just a while. I know that seems cliche...but oh well.

E flat? What what?!

Okay, so todays been pretty good. I had a voice lesson, which I was kinda dreading a whole lot. But then I got in the studio and was warming up and got up to an E flat. The one above the staff on treble clef. I know it might seem like I'm overreacting a bit, but its a pretty big accomplishment for me. I mean, that note is just a few little steps away from the F6 sing in the Queen of the Night aria! Im not aiming to be a coloratura, but still, itd be pretty cool to go into grad school auditions with that on my repertoire list.

Other than that, my days just been pretty good overall. I feel like Im getting a lot accomplished and, although I am super nervous for the two quizzes I have tomorrow, I feel pretty on top of things right now.
